NEW DELHI, April 21: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered two FIRs in connection with corruption allegations levelled by Governor Satya Pal Malik, in the awarding of contracts for a group medical insurance scheme for government employees and civil work worth Rs 2,200 crore related to Kiru hydroelectric power project in then Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Thursday.
The cases go back to the time when Malik was the Governor of the erstwhile state.
The CBI, after registering the FIRs, carried out searches on Thursday morning at 14 locations in Jammu, Srinagar, Delhi, Mumbai, Noida, Thiruvananthapuram and Darbhanga, they said.
The central agency has named Reliance General Insurance and Trinity Re-Insurance Brokers Limited as accused in its FIR related to a controversial health insurance scheme for J&K government employees reportedly cleared by Malik in the state administrative council meeting on August 31, 2018.
A second case was registered on allegations of malpractices in award of the contract worth Rs 2,200 crore (approximately) of civil works of Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project to a private company in 2019.
Malik, who was the governor of Jammu and Kashmir between August 23, 2018 and October 30, 2019 had claimed that he was offered a Rs 300 crore bribe for clearing two files. (PTI)
