SHILLONG, April 21: The Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) will hold a crucial meeting with residents of Them Iew Mawlong on Sunday to discuss the state government offer of relocating as many as 342 families to the European Ward.
HPC Chairman, Gurjeet Singh on Thursday said the meeting will be held at the Gurudwara located in the colony. “Whatever decision is taken will be intimated to the government on April 25,” Singh said, refusing to speak any further.
It may be added here that the government had assured the HPC that it would make efforts to relocate the 342 families from Harijan Colony at Them Iew Mawlong to the European Ward provided residents give their consent to the same.
The government has candidly told the members of the HPC that the relocation has to take place as per the recommendation made by the High-Level Committee (HLC).
The HPC was asked to discuss the “offer” with the residents and share the decision of the residents with the government during the next meeting scheduled on April 25.
