SHILLONG, April 24: The All India Trinamool Congress on Sunday asserted that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma may not win in his own turf in the 2023 assembly polls as people have lost faith in his policies and action.
Cautioning the ruling National People’s Party against making tall claims and assertions, AITC legislator from Chokpot, Lazarus Sangma said, “The chief minister himself may not win in his own constituency as people of South Tura have lost faith in him.”
Stating that all claims made by the NPP like AITC legislators joining NPP or the resolution of the border dispute or fulfilling the dream of (L) Purno Agitok Sangma was nothing but ‘media bluff’, Lazarus said, “Had NPP kept its promises in the four years they wouldn’t have needed to bluff in the media to fool the people.”
None from AITC will join NPP
Lazarus dismissed the ruling NPP’s claim that four of its legislators would defect to the latter’s camp.
It is an outrageous claim by the NPP, Sangma said, while adding, “We know that NPP leaders have been making advances not only to AITC legislators but to all the different parties to poach legislators.”
“None of the AITC legislators, now or in future, would be joining NPP,” he sternly announced, adding “NPP has a weak leadership.”
Referring to the border MoU signed by the state with Assam, the AITC MLA pointed out that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, instead of taking responsibility, has always adopted the path of blaming others for his own action.
Sangma said that present NPP leadership is weak and no AITC legislator from Meghalaya would like to be part of that camp leaving Mukul Sangma’s able leadership.
The CM has done more harm than benefit to the state, especially Garo Hills, in almost all the sectors with education having suffered more than anything despite it being the NPP’s first priority.
