SHILLONG, April 27: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday advised his party members to not take anything for granted and be fearful of elections as such a mindset will make them fighters and survivors.
Sangma, also the chief of the National People’s Party (NPP), was addressing a youth convention organised by the National People’s Youth Front or NYPF at the U Soso Tham Auditorium. Youth members of the party from across the state attended the convention.
He said there are two mindsets – “I am winning, don’t worry” and “Anything can happen, so we cannot take anything for granted”.
Sangma said had lost because of the second mindset. The fear of losing an election and having one’s back against the wall makes one work harder, helping develop the survivor instincts in a person.
“We want the mindset of a survivor in every member of the NPP,” he said.
On the statement by a Trinamool Congress MLA that he is weak on his home turf from the election point of view, he said: “I sincerely thank him because now I will work harder. Maybe there are things that I have not done correctly. I’m not perfect, nobody is.”
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong asserted that the NPP-led government dared to take up issues the others did not.
He suggested that such conventions should be organised at the grassroots level to carry the agenda of the NPP and the NPYF forward. These conventions can help the NPP secure 50 seats in the 2023 Assembly elections, he said.
