SHLLONG, April 28: The leaders of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Thursday met Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui and voiced their concerns over the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).
CUET will be conducted by the National Testing Agency for admitting students to different undergraduate (UG) courses in the central universities across the country.
According to the KSU leaders, the new system has created an atmosphere of confusion among the students.
“We highlighted many issues regarding CUET and the Minister assured us to ease the burden of the students,” R Kharjana, who is the chairman (education cell) of the KSU, told reporters.
During the meeting, the KSU had sought a clarification from the Minister on the plans and strategy of the Education department in easing the difficulties of the students.
“Since it is the first time, we are not certain how beneficial or detrimental it will be to the students,” Kharjana said.
He said Rymbui had assured them of all possible help to ease the problems of the students.
Amid growing apprehension and dissent with regard to CUET, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong had earlier this week disclosed the MDA government had written to the authorities concerned seeking the state be exempted from CUET’s purview for at least a year. He had said the response was awaited.
After a consultation meet with the principals and the heads of various institutes, the North-Eastern Hill University has decided to go ahead with CUET, 2022.
