SHILLONG, May 2: In a bid to render a medium to the minorities to express their grievances, the National Commission for Minorities has urged the Meghalaya government to constitute a state minority commission at the earliest.
Member of the National Commission for Minorities, Rinchen Lhamo, who undertook an official visit to Meghalaya for five days, on Monday said that they are going to ask the Chief Secretary to set the ball rolling for the state Minority Commission at the earliest so that the minorities can air their grievances.
Expressing her happiness that people from all religion are moving together and co-existing in the state, Lhamo stressed on the need for the minorities in Meghalaya to avail different central schemes.
The Commission even held a meeting with the heads of different religious communities, during which it asked the district heads to spread more awareness among the communities about the central schemes.
“We also expect Meghalaya government to come out with schemes which will make the people of the state job-givers instead of job-seekers,” Rinchen Lhamo said, while adding that some minority religious heads have asked the Commission to ensure that they avail minority certificate, for which it has asked the government to chalk out a plan.
