SHILLONG, May 7: Meghalaya has as many as four toll booths in the state along the national highways but sadly there is no centre to facilitate FASTag registration, which continues to bother vehicle owners in the state.
FASTags are rechargeable prepaid tags for toll collection which uses Radio Frequency Identification technology for making toll payments directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to the FASTag.
It was learnt that banks have been asked to conduct FASTag registration, but this too is hardly available in any of the banks in Shillong.
Although some private banks provide FASTag registration, one must have an account open with them to avail the service.
FASTags are not registered even in the State Bank of India branches here.
This leaves vehicle owners with only one option — to get FASTag registration from the toll booths.
When contacted, an NHAI official admitted that getting FASTag registration is a challenge in Shillong.
