SHILLONG, May 12: Days after the cleaning drive at Wah Umsohlang in Mawlai Kynton Massar, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday said various departments have been tasked with formulating a comprehensive plan to rejuvenate Umshing- Umsohlang stream, which is a lifeline of the people of Mawlai, as part of the river rejuvenation project mission. Earlier, the CM had participated in the cleaning drive.
Talking to reporters, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma recalled that he made a commitment on rejuvenation of the particular water source and stated that officials have visited the site and conducted a preliminary study of the river.
Reiterating that plans are afoot to take up this project as a mission-mode programme, Sangma said that the government will begin with this stream, which, according to the CM, will act as a model project for similar steps to rejuvenate other streams.
“We have asked the departments to come up with a comprehensive plan. We expect by May 31, the comprehensive plan will be put in place,” he said.
