SHILLONG, May 12: All India Trinamool Congress MLA from Umroi, George B Lyngdoh rejected reports that he would shift allegiance to the United Democratic Party even as he asserted that he will stick with his party.
“I would categorically like to state that I am not speaking on behalf of my other colleagues, but only for myself. For the past several weeks and days, it has been widely reported that some of my colleagues and I are planning to shift from the AITC to other political parties,” Lyngdoh said, adding that the reports were amusing and misleading.
“It is a fact that certain political parties have approached me with mouth-watering offers and promises. This has been going on for the past few months. The offers given to me only displayed the depraved desperation of certain political parties. It also showed the minuscule regard they have for their own local leaders and supporters, and their readiness to stoop to any level in their attempt to poach sitting legislators,” Lyngdoh said.
He observed that such inducement is an attempt to silence the voices of vocal leaders and make people forget the travails of illegalities and misgovernance that the state and its inhabitants have been going through under the current ruling dispensation.
“I take politics as a sacred calling to fulfil the aspirations of our people, and be their face and voice. We are not hankering for any seat in the Secretariat or tempting avenues. We are here to raise our voice against the government and its misdeeds. Governance in Meghalaya is crumbling as we speak. We see misgovernance nearly on a daily basis,” the AITC MLA from Umroi said.
Meanwhile, Lyngdoh stated that the present ruling dispensation, which includes all political parties which are part and parcel of the MDA, is solely responsible for the sorry state of affairs, and for tarnishing the good name that Meghalaya has been cultivating for the past many years.
He further stated that as the sole opposition in Meghalaya, the AITC will continue to be vociferous in speaking out against the misdemeanour of the government, and be the voice of the voiceless.
