Group questions govt’s delay in implementation of youth policy

SHILLONG, May 13: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Friday met Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh and expressed concern over the failure of the state government to implement the Sports and Youth Policy which was adopted in 2019.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, HYC chief, Robertjune Kharjahrin said the minister has assured them that the operational manual will be ready within a month’s time.
He said that the Sports Policy has spelled out on the various initiatives to be adopted for promotion and development of sports in addition to highlighting the scholarships and incentives to be paid to athletes who win medals in national and international events.
As far as the Youth Policy is concerned, Kharjahrin said that the government is yet to constitute the High-Powered Committee under the chairmanship of Chief Minister to oversee its implementation.
The HPC is supposed to meet once every six months, he said, while adding, “We will continue to follow up on the steps taken by the government to implement these two important policies.”
