SHILLONG, May 15: A 40-year-old man, convicted for murder, allegedly hanged himself to death inside a prison on Saturday, Inspector General (Prisons), Mariahom Kharkrang said on Sunday.
The alleged suicide occurred a day after the District and Sessions Court convicted John Shallam to five years and eight months of rigorous imprisonment for the murder case.
“The convict was found hanging in a toilet of an isolation ward by the prison personnel in the morning,” Kharkrang said.
He said a magisterial inquiry has been ordered to probe into the incident and the body has been sent for autopsy. (UNI)
