TURA, May 16: The South West Garo Hills district administration on Monday called a meeting with the district heads of all line departments to discuss ways by which Aadhaar enrolment may be accelerated in the district as part of the 300 days Aadhaar enrolment campaign initiated by the state government.
Beginning the discussion which was held at the DRDA conference hall in Ampati, Deputy Commissioner, SK Marak said that although the district is doing fairly well in Aadhaar enrolment, having the second highest enrolment rate in the state (73.77%) till date, there is still a need to have more enrolment camps across the district. He appealed to all the line departments to mobilise beneficiaries and also to inform the district nodal department in advance of any departmental programmes that they conduct which involve large public gatherings, so that Aadhaar operators can be sent to set up enrolment camps in such events.
Meanwhile, the Education department has been tasked with informing the schools to create awareness among the students about the importance of Aadhaar in availing all services provided by the government as well as scholarships for students.
The aim of the 300 days enrolment drive is to be proactive and instead of having only static enrolment centres, operators will be taking Aadhaar registration right to people’s doorsteps.
