‘Mentally ill’ man goes on assault spree; two killed

NONGPOH, May 25: In a bone-chilling incident which occurred in Sabuda village of Ri-Bhoi district, an allegedly mentally unstable man killed a woman and a man while injuring a 12-year-old girl on Wednesday morning.
According to sources, the incident was reported to the police by the Chairman of Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong Border Area, B Sohtun, who informed them that a youth identified as Seltiroy Mukhim (25), who is said to be mentally unstable, was beating anyone who came his way. On learning about this, the police from Mawlasnai Outpost swung into action rushing to the spot to conduct an inquiry.
Initially, police discerned that the telephonic report of the incident was true and that Seltiroy Mukhim had already beaten three of his relatives including a minor girl and a woman before their arrival.
Police later informed that one Dribon Mukhim (47) died on the spot after allegedly being assaulted, while the 49-year-old Rilan Mukhim succumbed to his injuries at NEIGRIHMS.
The alleged culprit, Seltiroy Mukhim, was later apprehended by his family members and handed over to police for further investigation.
