MAWKYRWAT, May 26: The Mawkyrwat and Ranikor circles of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) have warned of closing down the office of the Executive Engineer (EE), PHE Mawkyrwat Division, lest the government fails to bring in a permanent EE for the office within two weeks.
The KSU has raised the demand after conducting a surprise check of the office in Mawkyrwat.
Speaking to media persons, president of the KSU Mawkyrwat Circle, Pauldeep Tongwah, informed that the union received complaints from the general public that almost all PHE-related works in Mawkyrwat were pending due to the absence of an EE.
“On one hand, as citizens of Mawkyrwat, we feel proud that we got an MLA who is also a PHE Minister, but on the other hand we feel embarrassed that now it has been 6-7 months that we did not even have a permanent EE here in Mawkyrwat which he was in-charge. I don’t know the reason behind, but the question is why did the Minister did not bring the permanent EE here, which has created a lot of problems to the people,” Tongwah said.
Meanwhile, president of the KSU, Ranikor Circle, Marconi Thongni, said that absence of a permanent EE has created a lot of problems, especially the contractors involved in implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
Thongni also said that the Minister and the PHE department has two weeks to bring in a permanent EE failing which the Union will resort to closing down the EE office.
