USTM receives Best Private University of NE award

Guwahati, May 30, 2022: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has been declared the “Best Private University of North East India” in the Education Eminence 2022 Award given by the News18 media group.

The award was conferred by Dr Ranoj Pegu, Minister of Education, Assam and was accepted by Prof G. D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, USTM in a function held yesterday evening in Guwahati.

On the same occasion, a Debate competition was held on the topic “New Education Policy: Career and Beyond” in which Sharmina Begum, a B Pharma student of USTM received the best debater award from Dr Pegu.

Dr Ranoj Pegu and Editors of media groups, other eminent dignitaries present in the function
congratulated USTM for receiving the award. USTM is having students from all the NE states,
and specially from the state of Assam, according to a Press Communique issued by the USTM.

“I am very happy and congratulate USTM family for receiving this award. My best wishes for USTM to go forward in its mission of becoming a world class university”, said the minister.

Prof G. D. Sharma, VC, USTM said, “Based on our achievement in quality education as well as teaching learning process, the sports achievement and the NET qualifier students, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council has awarded ‘A’ grade to
USTM in 2021. Getting ‘A’ grade in 1st cycle of NAAC assessment is actually rare and we
achieved it.”

The NAAC grading takes into account different aspects about the quality of the
syllabi, the teachers and students’ interaction, teaching learning process, research and outreach activities and so on. Pay Back policy of USTM is unique one since all fees paid by students is returned by the university under this policy if they clear NET/GATE and other competitive examination like the civil service exam conducted by the UPSC.
