NONGSTOIN, May 31: Several youth leaders from different political parties in Nongstoin including the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) have joined the National People’s Party (NPP) in Nongpyndeng village.
The new inductees include more than 74 supporters from HSPDP and Congress who joined the NPP at a formal programme organised by NPP Mawkhlam-Nongpyndeng. They were welcomed by Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat, who is also the NPP chief of West Khasi Hills, and party leaders from Nongstoin Block besides over 300 supporters.
Speaking at the programme, former Congress leader, Tender Sohphoh, said that he has no issue with the Congress party but the inability of the grand-old party to keep the party intact from within has led to him joining the NPP. Sohphoh said that he was also influenced by the developmental work initiated by NPP MLA from Nongstoin, Macmillan Byrsat.
