SHILLONG, June 6: Nongkrem Constituency is heading towards a multi-cornered battle in the 2023 Assembly polls with Cabinet Minister and Mawhati MLA, Dasakhiatbha Lamare, now entering the fray for the seat in the midst of contenders like Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Basaiawmoit, United Democratic Party (UDP) chief adviser Bindo M Lanong and Independent Lambor Malngiang, who is the sitting MLA of Nongkrem.
Speaking to media persons here, Lamare revealed that he was supposed to contest the Assembly elections in 2018 from Nongkrem Constituency. “Due to some circumstances, we had to take the decision to contest from Mawhati,” he said.
Talking about his constituency, Lamare said that there will be another candidate in Mawhati just as capable as him to serve the constituency.
Claiming that Nongkrem constituency is facing several issues, Lamare said he is trying his best to fulfill his responsibilities.
“I am very busy nowadays as I have to take care of two constituencies,” he stated, while adding that he is carrying out developmental works for Mawhati as well as his constituency.
On threats posed to him by leaders like Ardent Basaiawmoit, Lamare said he is focused not to take any elections lightly. “Even if there are no challenges, I cannot take elections lightly,” he added.
It may be mentioned that Nongkrem Constituency seems to be heading for a an interesting battle especially with the names of leaders like Ardent Basaiawmoit, Bindo M Lanong and Lambor Malngiang being associated in the contest.
