Man detained for ‘manhandling’ traffic cop

SHILLONG, June 10: Days after the recent Nongthymmai episode, a similar incident occurred here on Friday afternoon wherein a resident of Lumparing Laban was detained by the police for allegedly manhandling a traffic police personnel at Red Cross point, and an FIR was registered at against him as well.
When contacted, Additional Superintendent of Police, Ian Swer, said that one of the traffic constables was performing his duty circa 2 pm, when Tipsuk Shabong of Lumparing Laban onboard a vehicle (ML05W2777) wanted to park near the road but the stretch had become congested. “So, the constable told him not to park the vehicle as the stretch gets congested but the person manhandled him and pushed and pulled him,” the additional SP added.
Reportedly, passersby also reportedly shouted at the person.
Recently, a Home Guard volunteer was almost run over by an unruly driver when the former intercepted the vehicle over traffic violation in Nongthymmai. Later, the driver and the handyman of the vehicle were arrested.
