Consultation workshop at NEHU
SHILLONG, June 10: A state-level consultation workshop on ‘Knowledge Network in Meghalaya- Identifying Issues & Priorities for Bridging Science, Policy & Practice’ was on Thursday organised at ICSSR Conference Hall, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong. According to a statement, the workshop was organised by the State Council of Science, Technology & Environment, Meghalaya, and the GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (NIHE), Sikkim Regional Centre, Pangthang. The workshop was attended by representatives from universities, colleges, research scholars, research organisations, NGOs and state government departments. Prof. Uma Shankar, Department of Botany, NEHU Shillong, who was the chief guest for the programme, lauded the initiative to establish the Himalayan Knowledge Network in Meghalaya. He said doing so “will enhance collaboration and networking among all relevant institutions for Himalayan-specific R&D and education and practitioners of conservation and development”.

Medical camp in EKH
SHILLONG, June 10: A medical camp was on Friday organised by NSS unit of William Carey University as part of NSS Special Camping Programme at Mawblang, Jongksha villages under Mawkynrew C&RD Block. According to a statement, the campaign was organised in collaboration with Jongsha PHC. “Free medicines were also distributed to the villagers of Mawblang,” it said.

BSF foils smuggling bid
SHILLONG, June 10: The BSF Meghalaya on Thursday foiled a smuggling bid and confiscated 55 cattle from the bordering area of East Jaintia Hills. The cattle, meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh, were brought clandestinely to the border area through forest by miscreants when troops of BSF outpost Dona intercepted them. The seized cattle will be handed over to concerned police outpost for further action.

Prize distribution ceremony
SHILLONG, June 10: A farewell-cum-prize distribution ceremony was jointly organised by junior students, and teaching and non-teaching staff of the Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), Meghalaya, for the graduating batch of 2022. According to a statement, the programme was attended by university vice chancellor Dr. Kandarpa Das, faculty members, students, et al. “Prizes were distributed to students who showcased their talent in the sports and cultural competitions held in April, earlier this year. The prize distribution ceremony was followed by various cultural activities, performed by the final and junior year students,” the statement said. Cultural programmes were also organised as part of the ceremony.

Industrial fair launched in WGH
TURA, June 10: A two-day Tura Industrial Fair (TIF), 2022, was inaugurated by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, at the SMELC Building Dakopgre in Tura, on Thursday. The Fair is being organised by the District Commerce and Industries Centre, Tura, in a bid to encourage and promote budding local entrepreneurs of the region, and market their products. Local entrepreneurs from the Garo Hills region participated and displayed their products for sale ranging from the famous Nokrek Raw Honey, local Karitchi, cashew nut, among others.
