NONGPOH, June 14: Three shops located at Downgate, Nongpoh, were gutted during the wee hours of Tuesday, in an incident which has been subbed as the handiwork of select miscreants
The fire incident has dealt a significant blow to the shop owners, who are said to have been running the small-time business to sustain their families. The aggrieved shop owners have alleged that there are people behind the incident. After committing theft, the miscreants might have burned down the shops, they said, while hinting at the possible hand of drug addicts or thieve.
The reason behind the shop owners pointing fingers at miscreants and not any accident is because their shops did not have electricity connection, instead they used solar power. Also, the incident occurred around 3 am when there is no electricity in Nongpoh area.
Theft cases involving small shops in and around Nongpoh are not a new thing, and these cases can be attributed to the rise in the number of drug addicts.
An FIR was filed with Nongpoh Police Station.
