SHILLONG, June 18: The mortal remains of BSF constable Satish Kumar Singh, who recently died in rain-triggered landslides, have been brought to Shillong.
Informing this, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday said that the body of the constable was initially ferried in a boat to Bagli Border Outpost and not to Shillong as the route was cut off.
However, with joint coordination from BSF Meghalaya and Bangladesh Rifles, the body was taken by boat from Bagli Border Outpost to Gomaghat Border Outpost and then to Shillong, Conrad informed.
It may be mentioned that the Singh, a jawan of 170th Battalion of BSF Meghalaya Frontier, was killed in a landslide at Lalghat Border Outpost on Friday. According to police, the incident occurred around 12.40 pm.
A BSF official said the mortal remains of Singh will be taken to his native village Maudha in Uttar Pradesh’s Gazipur district, after completing official formalities.
It may be mentioned that parts of Meghalaya on Saturday received less rainfall while further reduction in precipitation is expected from Sunday, albeit situation continues to remain grim in most parts.
On Friday, a total of 14 people, including a six-month-old infant, died in the rain-induced floods and landslides in the state. (With inputs from UNI)
