Mass yoga sessions across state

SHILLONG/TURA, June 21: The citizenries including yoga enthusiasts from different walks of life came together on Tuesday to celebrate the International Day of Yoga 2022 at different venues across the state.

In the state capital, around 800 individuals comprising students, defence personnel among others participated in a yoga exercise led by a team of North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shillong.
The celebration was held at the Convocation Hall, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, on the theme ‘Yoga for Humanity’, at the Convocation Hall of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong.
Union Minister of State (MoS) for Minority Affairs, John Barla, was the chief guest while Health & Family Welfare Minister James PK Sangma was the guest of honour of the programme.
In his address, the MoS pointed out the significance of this year’s celebration stating that it coincides with the commemoration of the 75th year of Independence (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav).
During the programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation virtually from Mysuru, Karnataka.

It is worth mentioning that the NEHU campus was one of the chosen 75 sites across India for celebration of International Yoga Day.
Several city colleges including Buddha Bhanu Saraswati College, Shillong Commerce College, Sankardev College and Shillong College also organised yoga sessions in their respective capacities to celebrate the occasion.
Hundreds of students and faculty members partook in the yoga sessions.
While on the other hand, the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan in association with Metallica – Sargam Sports and Cultural Club, Shillong, celebrated the 8th International Yoga Day 2022 on the premises of Matri Mandir at Polo from 6:30 am to 8 am.

The occasion was celebrated by both the government departments and private institutions in separate functions held at different venues to mark the occasion in Garo Hills.
In Tura, the occasion under the theme ‘Yoga for Humanity’ was observed at the District Indoor Stadium where West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe was the chief guest.
The programme was organised by the District Medical and Health Office, West Garo Hills.
During the function, different asanas were also demonstrated by Dr Sambu Aryal, Medical Officer, Yoga and Naturopathy. Deputy Commissioner, District and Session Judge, Chief Judicial Magistrate, medical officers, nursing students and others performed the asanas to commemorate the day.

The occasion was also celebrated at the College of Community Science, Central Agriculture University in Tura and the Central Agriculture University, Krishi Vighyan Kendra, in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills.
The Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) in collaboration with the Sadananda Yoga and Culture Centre and the Tura Natya Samity also celebrated the occasion. Similarly, the occasion was observed by the Nehru Yuva Kendra from East Garo Hills.
