Washington Sundar signs up with Lancashire
Manchester, June 22: County side Lancashire on Wednesday announced that they have signed up India all-rounder Washington Sundar as their overseas player. Washington, who has been missing in action due to hand injury sustained while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022, is set to join the team after his rehab at National Cricket Academy (NCA) gets over. This will be his first stint in England’s domestic cricket and would be the second Indian after Cheteshwar Pujara to play county cricket. Pujara, who is with the India Test team ahead of their four-day tour match against Leicestershire, scored 720 runs in eight innings at a stunning average of 120 for Sussex in the first half of division two of the County Championship. Pakistan legend Zaheer Abbas in ICU
Lahore, June 22: Legendary Pakistan cricketer Zaheer Abbas has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a London hospital after his health “deteriorated severely”, a report in Cricket Pakistan said on Wednesday. The report added that the 74-year-old former cricketer, who played 78 Tests and scored 5000-plus runs at an average of nearly 45 with 12 centuries, was shifted to St. Mary’s Hospital’s ICU in critical condition. The former Test skipper was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2020 alongside South Africa’s Jacques Kallis and former Australia woman cricketer Lisa Sthalekar. (IANS)
Ramiz Raja to seek approval for PJL
Karachi, June 22: PCB chairman Ramiz Raja will seek approval for his ambitious Pakistan Junior League (PJL) T20 tournament during the 69th meeting of the Board of Governors (BoG) to be held in Lahore on Thursday. Ramiz, a former Pakistan captain, is keen to launch the PJL in October this year for Under-19 foreign and local players. Ramiz is planning to hold the PJL on the lines of the Pakistan Super League with a franchise based system and wants to involve foreign coaches and players in the inaugural event. The PCB has apparently set a base price of around 14 to 15 crores for each franchise. (PTI)
