EGH man gets five years for molesting 8-year-old

TURA, June 23: A man from East Garo Hills has been awarded five years of rigorous imprisonment and has been fined an amount of Rs 10,000 for molesting an eight-year-old in 2013.
According to East Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, the convict, Ajaybirth Ch Marak, who had committed the crime in 2013, was arrested and forwarded to judicial custody after an FIR was registered against him. Marak was found guilty on June 31 and awarded the sentence by District and Sessions Judge/Special Judge POCSO, M Skhemlon.
In a similar case, one Ferdinus Marbaniang was awarded five years and three months of imprisonment and was fines Rs 3000 for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, an FIR was registered against Marbaniang at Rynjah Police Station in May 2015 and a charge sheet was filed in March 2016.
On June 21, 2022, the Court of Special Judge (POCSO) found Marbaniang was found guilty and was awarded the sentence.
