EJH administration to sensitise public through weekly podcast
SHILLONG, June 23: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the East Jaintia Hills district administration will now disseminate information among the public on government schemes and programmes, among others. East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner A Baranwal on Thursday launched the weekly podcast of the district administration. The idea behind this initiative is to empower the common men with relevant information. The language of podcast will be Pnar so as to cater to the rural population. The podcasts will also be shared on YouTube and WhatsApp. In first episode, discussion will be held on FOCUS scheme. When contacted, East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner said that they are aiming coverage of government schemes so that people have access to all relevant information.

BSF seizes 60 cattle in 24 hours
SHILLONG, June 23: In a span of 24 hours, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya seized 60 heads of cattle from the bordering area of East and West Jaintia Hills districts, which were meant for smuggling to Bangladesh. A BSF statement said that most of the cattle were being brought clandestinely to the border area through the forest by miscreants when the BSF intercepted them. A truck loaded with cattle was also confiscated by BSF near Umkiang area. The driver and one of his accomplices, however, managed to escape from the spot. The BSF has pointed out that miscreants are trying to take advantage of the inclement weather. The BSF, however, have been on alert to thwart such bids. During the first half of the year, the BSF Meghalaya confiscated more than 2,000 cattle from the international border.

Body found in East Khasi Hills
SHILLONG, June 23: A body of an unknown man, aged 30-40 years approximately and 175 cm tall, was on June 19 found afloat a river at Mynsain village, East Khasi Hills. Following the conduct of inquest, the body was shifted to NEIGRIHMS for autopsy, and is now kept at the hospital morgue for identification and claim.

Awareness on drug abuse at MLCU
SHILLONG, June 23: An awareness programme on ‘Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ was conducted by East Khasi Hills Police in collaboration with the Martin Luther Christian University on Thursday which was attended by students and faculty members of different departments of the university. According to a statement, during the programme, concern was raised over rampant rise in the case of drugs use while the students were asked to stay away from such practices. Students were also asked to use MEG-CopWatch, a women safety app, to report any crime against women and children.
