IIM Shillong, Manipur University ink pact to foster skill devp, biz

SHILLONG, June 27: In line with its endeavour to remain contextually relevant, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to foster entrepreneurship and skill development was signed by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong with University of Manipur on Monday.
The MoU was signed by Director of IIM Shillong Prof DP Goyal and Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University Prof N Lokendra Singh.
According to a statement, the initiative aims to support the areas of business management, training, and consultancy activities, business development and sustainable livelihood promotion, entrepreneurship and skill development of the students, business incubation centres, promotion of entrepreneurship, faculty development and training and joint research in the field of management science, social science and humanities in a mutually beneficial manner.
On the sidelines of the main event, the Manipur University Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development systemised a one-day national seminar on ‘Startups and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in India’ in collaboration with IIM Shillong Centre for Development of North Eastern Region, which was has been charged with organising short and long-term programmes pertaining to the local community and society.
In his address as the chief guest, Prof Goyal said, “IIM Shillong has a major role to play in the development of the Northeastern region. The environment of entrepreneurship is very enabling. We support young people in the Northeast in creation and marketing of enterprises.”
On the MoU, he said it will affect Manipur’s landscape. “Our goal is to assist the people of Manipur. We will help them develop and put those ideas into action by identifying ideas. Through guidance and handholding, we will assist the incubator,” he explained.
