SHILLONG, June 27: Five prominent pressure groups of the state – the Khasi Students’ Union, the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front, the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation and the Jaintia Students’ Union – have decided to launch a fresh series of agitation to awaken the state government which has been lax on its various pending demands like implementation of the inner-line permit and resolution of the interstate border dispute with Assam, among others.
Leaders of the five pressure groups met at the KSU office at Jaiaw to deliberate on issues concerning the indigenous population on the state.
“We are upset with the state government for its failure to fulfil the demands which we have raised from time to time,” FKJGP working president Dundee Cliff Khongsit said in a statement.
He said the groups will launch their agitation in the coming weeks in both Khasi-Jaintia and Garo Hills regions.
