NONGPOH, June 30: Alleging ostracism and torments by village leaders, a woman from Pathardharo village in Jirang constituency has knocked on the doors of court for justice.
The matter came to light after the woman, identified as Regina Marbaniang, visited the District & Sessions Court in Nongpoh on Thursday for hearing on the matter.
Addressing media persons here, Marbaniang alleged that on January 24, 2022, village leaders and villagers, led by the headman Opos Mawnai, went to her house and destroyed betel nuts and pineapple cultivated on her plot of land.
Marbaniang also accused the village leaders of attempting to ostracise her by claiming that she is not a bona fide resident of the village.
Arguing that that she was born and brought up in the village, Marbaniang said, “Because I am poor and illiterate, the village leaders are trying to take advantage of me. I was helpless since no one from the village had come to support me.”
She also accused the village leaders of depriving her of the household water tap connection provided under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
