SHILLONG, July 3: The Meghalaya Pradesh Trinamool Congress (MPTC) has continued to express ignorance on the possible defection of four of its MLAs.
MPTC state president, Charles Pyngrope on Sunday said the party has no information on it.
“No one has communicated to me if they are planning to leave the party,” he said.
The quartet – Shitlang Pale, Himalaya M Shangpliang, Marthon Sangma and Jimmy D Sangma – did not show up when party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee visited Shilling to inaugurate the party office.
Pyngrope said the four MLAs had informed that they were not free and as such, could not attend the programme.
“There is no issue if they were not free. As it stands, all of them are part and parcel of the party,” Pyngrope said.
Speculations are, however, rife that they are planning to ditch the party and contest the Assembly elections next year on the tickets of other political parties. Reports suggest Shangpliang and Pale are likely to contest from the United Democratic Party (UDP).
