SHILLONG, July 6: Suspended Congress MLA from Mawlai PT Sawkmie on Wednesday urged the State BJP to take up the plight of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers in Meghalaya with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Delhi.
His appeal comes a day after SSA teachers gave the state government July 15 deadline to release their pending salaries pertaining to five months, hike pay and allot additional budgetary provision for SSA teachers.
Arguing that whenever an issue crops up in the state, BJP leaders talk about taking it up with the Centre, Sawkmie urged the saffron party leaders including State BJP chief Ernest Mawrie, and BJP leaders Sanbor Shullai to take the SSA teachers’ grievances to the BJP at the Centre.
Admitting that the state releases funds soon after they are received from the Centre, the Mawlai MLA said that the central government should be urged to be considerate in the case.
On the delay in release of salary, the government has maintained that the department had received insufficient funds from the state and central governments, and hence there is a delay.
