SHILLONG, July 9: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief and Lok Sabha member, Vincent H Pala on Saturday asserted that the party will not revoke the suspension of the five Congress MLAs.
“There is no turning back as we have already chosen candidates (for the space created by the suspended MLAs),” he said.
His assertion has attained significance after sources said four of the suspended Congress MLAs had been approached to contest the 2023 Assembly polls from the party. “We have already decided on the candidates and are putting up fresh faces where there are none. The question of rolling back does not arise,” Pala said.
Congress has literally shut the door on the five suspended MLAs and the chances of their contesting the 2023 Assembly polls are likely to be on the tickets of other parties.
The five, too, have indicated that they are not returning to Congress. They had earlier said Congress has left them with no option other than evaluating other parties.
Three of the five are tipped to join the National People’s Party and two are likely to join the United Democratic Party.
Pala also said he has no information about former Chief Minister Mukul M. Sangma trying to be back in Congress.
