SHILLONG, July 12: On account of complaints received from several youths operating two-wheeler taxi services such as Rapido with regard to the order issued by the Transport department banning the services, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), on Tuesday, expressed concern over the matter stating that this ban has threatened the livelihood of many such youths.
Although he acknowledged that the order has been issued according to the provisions of the law, KSU general secretary Donald Thabah, however, urged the Transport department to find out measures which will somehow help youths to earn a living by operating the two-wheeler taxi services.
He recalled how the Mizoram Government in 2017 issued permit for two-wheelers to run the taxi service in Aizawl.
He also claimed that the Transport department of Mizoram created an app called ‘Huiva’ which is almost similar to Rapido, Ola, Uber etc.
“We suggest that the state government should take similar steps like Mizoram government to help these youth who are affected by the order to ban the two-wheelers taxi service,” the KSU leader said.
