SHILLONG, July 13: The ruling National People’s Party on Wednesday asked Meghalaya Pradesh Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Sangma not to politicise the interstate border agreement and respect the sentiments of the people who have suffered for long and are waiting for a permanent solution.
“It is sad that he has made the statement. To be very frank, when they were in power for eight years they did not do anything about it and now when finally something has happened they just want to undo it,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, a day after Mukul asserted that he would scrap the MoU on border if his party is voted to power in 2023.
Recalling that the opposition leader had mentioned that the survey and revenue maps should have been looked at, Conrad said, “The maps were made by them and the report that was submitted was prepared by them.”
“For the last many months they did not make this an issue but now they are trying to making this an issue since elections are approaching,” the CM said.
Meanwhile, NPP state president and Rajya Sabha member WR Kharlukhi said, “You did not even dare to arrest the four Assam police personnel who had killed innocent people in Langpih during your government and now you are talking about scrapping the MoU.”
Attacking the Trinamool Congress leader, he said, “Saying that he will scrap the MoU if voted to power is nothing but political gimmick. I dare Mukul to say that if the people give their mandate to him he will solve the problem within a year.”
