Artiste alleges manipulation of results by prog organisers
TURA, July 13: The organisers of the recently held ‘Ha Rynsan Meghalaya Rising Star’ have been accused by a Tura-based artiste, Nasa Rianchi Ch Marak, of manipulating the result sheet and wrongfully placing her in third place. In a complaint filed with Sardar Police Station in Shillong, Marak accused that the organisers of using unfair means to deprive her of her success, and said she was even made to sell coupons to be counted as votes. According to Marak, when she complained against the results, the organisers tried to buy time by assuring to look into her concerns in an attempt to prevent her from filing a police complaint. “I was informed by one of the judges that there had been manipulation of the score sheets so I sought that they be provided to me. I managed to get two of the score sheets from the judges but the third one was not given to me,” Marak said in her complaint, adding that going by the two score sheets she was provided with, it was clear that she was well ahead of the others. Marak, in the complaint, has blamed one Comet Lyngdoh for the entire goof-up. It is also pertinent to note that a similar complaint was filed by another contestant, Andriana Kharsyiemlong, of Shillong at the same police station.

Union MoS reviews devp works
NONGPOH, July 13: Union Minister of State for Power and Heavy Industries Krishan Pal Gurjar on Wednesday reviewed developmental works in Ri-Bhoi, one of the 112 aspirational districts across India, during a meeting here. The review meeting on Aspirational District Programme and Power sector was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and was attended by officials from different line departments, PowerGrid and NEEPCO. During the meeting, the Union MoS was briefed on different key indicators including health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, skill development, et al, being carried out under Aspirational District Programme. Officials of PowerGrid and NEEPCO also apprised the Union MoS of the performance of the power sector. The Union MoS, in his speech, patted Ri-Bhoi for its performance among all the aspirational districts in the country. He also asked the officials to continue working for the overall development of the district and to further improve Ri-Bhoi’s ranking in Aspirational District Programme.The Union MoS, during his visit, conducted inspection in Umsawnongkharai village.

Natl workshop gets under way
SHILLONG, July 13: A seven-day national workshop on ‘Application of Statistics in Social Science Research’ got under way here on Wednesday. Organised by the Department of Statistics of Shillong College in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, the national workshop is being organised in a bid to understand the role of Statistics in various fields such as research work and data analysis. The inaugural programme was attended by HoD of Statistics from NEHU Dr SK Jha as the guest of honour, principal of Shillong College Dr E Kharkongor, faculty members, students, et al.
