SHILLONG, July 15: The East Khasi Hills district administration has started an inquiry into the collapse of the bamboo-made gallery during a match of the Shillong Premier League (SPL) between Mawlai SC and Ryntih FC at Third Ground, Polo, on Thursday.
An official said they will inquire into the reason(s) behind the collapse of the gallery in which two persons were injured.
The district administration will also seek a clarification from the organisers of the event.
Stating that the fitness and structural stability of temporary structures and ensuring seating as per capacity is mandatory for public safety for all kinds of events, the Deputy Commissioner’s office said that all organisers and general public have to exercise caution to prevent any unfortunate incident.
The Shillong Sports Association (SSA) has come up with the temporary gallery to accommodate football fans attending the SPL matches.
The capacity of the gallery was only for about 200 people but over 1,000 people had turned up for the match on Thursday.
