NEW DELHI, July 18: Vice President M Venkiah Naidu, who is also the ex-officio chairman of the Upper House, on Monday paid tributes to former MP Robert Kharshiing, and called him an able parliamentarian and dedicated social worker.
Naidu, in his obituary reference on the first day of the Monsoon session of Parliament, said that Kharshiing, who breathed his last in April this year, was a social worker and was actively involved in politics right from his student days.
Kharshiing represented Meghalaya in this House from April 2002 to April 2008, he said.
In his passing away, the country has lost a dedicated social worker and an able parliamentarian, the Vice President said.
It may be mentioned that Kharshiing, who had served as the president of the Khasi Students’ Union, started his career as a Member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 1990 and served the Assembly till 1993.
Kharshiing breathed his last at the age of 63 on April 7, 2022, following a prolonged illness.
