TURA, July 19: A resident of Moulakandi village in West Garo Hills has written to the Block Development Officer of Demdema Block seeking the conduct of elections to Moulakandi VEC in one part and entity.
In his representation to the BDO, Mozidur Rahman, a resident of the same village informed that Moulakandi VEC was bifurcated into four parts in 2017 and later into twelve parts in 2018. Rahman alleged that the bifurcation was done without the consent and knowledge of the job card holders.
According to Rahman, a writ petition was filed in the High Court following which, the court after hearing the matter passed an order directing the BDO to examine the entire matter afresh and to conduct the VEC election as well as look into the matter with regard to the bifurcation of the VEC.
Rahman also claimed that the matter of bifurcation and the election to the VEC was challenged in the Meghalaya High Court during which, certain directions were passed by the court, despite which, the issue continues to be pending with the government.
