MSOA holds talent identification programme in Nongpoh

Nongpoh, July 22: The state Talent Identification Testing Programme launched by the Meghalaya State Olympic Association with the support of the Department of Sport & Youth Affairs, Meghalaya was held on Friday at NSCA Mini Stadium, in Nongpoh.
More than 245 participants from various schools of the district took part in the event where four physical tests – 20m Sprint, 10m Ladder run, Compass Drill and the Vertical Jump – were conducted.
In the events, three athletes – Rooney Lyngdoh, Kitboklang Shangpliang, and Badahunlang Syngkli – were short listed from Ri-Bhoi.
Rooney (11) excelled at the 10M Ladder Run and clocked 2.71, an international benchmark. Syngkli (18) was also able to achieve an international benchmark with a vertical jump of 50cms, meanwhile, Kitboklang (15) displayed his speed, also with an international benchmark for a 15-year-old, at 2.37 seconds.
The programme was implemented by the Edge10 Group from UK under the supervision of Australian Olympian Ian Cambell.
MSOA Working President John F Kharshiing, informed that this testing programme will be conducting in all twelve districts of the state to identify the talented candidates through digital equipment.
He further states that the selected candidates will be sent out to different academies for training along with scholarship.
