HC judge throws light on objective of legal services institutions

SHILLONG, July 25: High Court Judge and Executive Chairman of Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA), Justice HS Thangkhiew has thrown light on the objective of legal services institutions and the services provided to the poor, marginalised and specially-abled persons as well as the weaker sections of the society.
Justice Thangkhiew was speaking during a health camp-cum-awareness programme on National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) schemes and government welfare schemes organised by MSLSA in collaboration with the Social Welfare department, Health & Family Welfare department, Community & Rural Development department, District Legal Services Authority of Ri-Bhoi and other stakeholders at Pynthor village, Bhoirymbong C&RD Block, Ri-Bhoi, on Saturday.
He also spoke on different NALSA schemes with special reference to NALSA (Effective Implementation of Poverty Alleviation Schemes) Scheme 2015 as laid under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
Justice Thangkhiew also stressed upon the need to utilise the services of paralegal volunteers (PLVs) in realising the rights of every citizen under the provisions of the Constitution and other social beneficial schemes.
On the occasion, the HC judge handed over special tools and implements to selected specially-abled persons such as electric wheelchair, smartphones and crutches.
Meanwhile, more than 1,000 participants availed benefits from the health camp which include students, women, children, specially-abled persons, etc.
Services such as different types of health check-up, immunisation, COVID-19 vaccination, RBSK, Counseling (Adolescent/ICTC/Dietician), et al, were provided during the camp free of cost.
Stalls were also set up for exhibition of schemes and services provided by various departments.
