Shillong, July 26: The state Cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to regularise the services of as many as 2,447 Lower Primary school teachers, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said.
“We have decided to regularise 2,447 teachers and now they will receive benefits as regular government employees,” he said, pointing out that it was a long-pending demand of the teachers.
The chief minister recalled that when the state government had taken over the LP schools in 1993, a large number of teachers had been regularised as government employees.
“However, 2,447 teachers were left out in the process due to which they were not getting pension and other benefits,” he added.
“This had happened for many reasons and I don’t want to get into the details of that,” Sangma said.
“When the state government took over 2,568 schools run by the district councils at that point in time, 136 schools had been left out,” he stated.
