SHILLONG, Aug 4: Former UDP leader Malcolm Tariang, along with Congress members of East Shillong, on Thursday joined the National People’s Party (NPP) during a programme here.
NPP national president Conrad Sangma said that Tariang’s entry is a big boost for the party image.
NPP national vice president Prestone Tynsong, on the other hand, said that the party will surely win the East Shillong constituency in 2023 Assembly elections.
Tariang, on the other hand, informed that he will not contest from East Shillong but will fully support the NPP candidate.
He said that his entry in the party was largely due to its leadership and the way they dealt with issues.
During the programme, NPP’s East Shillong Block Executive Committee was also constituted.
A professor of St Edmund’s College, Tariang had unsuccessfully contested the 2008 Assembly elections from Laitumkhrah constituency as an Independent candidate and as a UDP candidate in 2009 by-elections.
