SHILLONG, Aug 9: Chief Secretary DP Wahlang has been asked to look into the situation in Umlakhar, Ri-Bhoi, which has been reeling under power crisis for more than four months.
In a letter to the chief secretary, Kyrsoibor Pyrtuh said that the residents of Umlakhar are in need of access to basic rights, especially when India is celebrating its 75th Independence Day.
“There are vested interests and rumour mongers who raise a false cry that any household in Umlakhar village which do not raise a Tricolor flag may perhaps be disrobed of their citizenship,” Pyrtuh said, asking the chief secretary to initiate an inquiry into the rumours.
He also beseeched Wahlang to direct the district authority, including the MeECL Ri-Bhoi, to immediately restore electricity in Umlakhar village.
