NONGPOH, Aug 10: Launching a scathing attack on the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) for second consecutive day, Meghalaya Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Sangma on Wednesday made a clarion call for the ouster of the government which, he said, works for the rich and not for the common people.
Mukul was speaking at a meeting in Lumnongrim, Byrnihat, which was attended by Opposition Chief Whip George B Lyngdoh, MLA James Lyngdoh, among others.
During Wednesday’s meeting, Mukul also confirmed new faces from Jirang in the Meghalaya TMC.
Sunmoon Marak was not only elected as the president of TMC Jirang Block but was also announced as a candidate to contest the Assembly elections from Jirang on a TMC ticket.
Addressing the gathering, Mukul said that people in Meghalaya have started to not only accept but also join the TMC only with the hope of seeing positive changes.
“TMC party is a party which can be trusted by the people of the state, and the main motive of bringing this party to the state is to bring a change and all-round development as desired by the people,” said Mukul, adding, “MDA government is the worst- ever government in the state and people have witnessed that teachers, ASHA workers were compelled to sleep on the street only to demand what is theirs.”
He also made reference to the recently inked memorandum of understating (MoU) between Meghalaya and Assam to resolve differences in six out of 12 contested areas.
“We cannot forget the ill-treatment of the MDA government to the people residing in the border areas and in this recent settlement of disputed border between Meghalaya and Assam, the MoU was signed blindly without the concern of the people and traditional heads who have more knowledge on the jurisdiction of Meghalaya,” Mukul said.
Appealing to one and all to vote the MDA out of power in 2023, Mukul said the government works for the rich and not for the common people, and it is the common people who have the power to topple the government.
