SHILLONG, Aug 11: The High Powered Committee of the State Assembly is awaiting the audit report on the dome collapse from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG) to take the matter forward.
“As soon as they are ready with the audit report we will take it up in the meeting of the HPC,” Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh said on Thursday.
Asked about the status of the audit report, he said, “The audit reports of left and right wings of the main building are more or less ready.”
Lyngdoh said that the HPC, in its last meeting in July, had insisted that the audit report should be submitted at the earliest. “I have reminded the chief minister about the same. It is now up to the PWD (Buildings) department to speed up the matter and ensure that the reports are submitted at the earliest,” he added.
The audit is being conducted by a five-member team of the IITG.
The team is currently auditing the foundation of the building. The team is also assessing the possible causes behind the collapse of the 70-tonne central dome which was meant to be the highlight of the Assembly building.
