SHILLONG, Aug 11: Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Sangma on Thursday slammed the state’s “unholy” ruling alliance, accusing it of trying to divide the people.
Speaking at a programme in Shella, he pooh-poohed the MDA’s recent claims that it will get majority in the Assembly elections.
“Today’s politicians have self-centered agenda. They want to be in power but not serve the people. The parties in the MDA are not going for a pre-poll alliance because the majority of the people want to see the alliance removed from the ruling dispensation,” Sangma claimed.
“The MDA government is trying to divide the very powerful democratic force by putting multiple candidates from UDP, HSPDP and KHNAM in the same constituency,” he further said. The TMC leader asked the ruling coalition what happened to its promise of fighting for the interests of the people. He claimed the TMC, which is fighting against the MDA, is the only credible option.
Sangma said after the 2018 elections, leaders from Delhi had flown to Shillong and elected Conrad K Sangma as the Chief Minister even before he won the trust of the people as an MLA.
The TMC leader took a swipe at the MDA government for alleged misgovernance. He claimed the previous government headed by him always wanted to develop the state into an education and tourism hub.
“In 2011, from two existing government colleges, we built six. However, the education sector is a mess today. Various consulates and embassies of foreign countries are advising (their people) against traveling to Meghalaya,” the former CM said.
He claimed SSA teachers, ASHA workers, MeECL employees and single mothers are suffering under this government.
