Mood buoyant ahead of I-Day

SHILLONG, Aug 14: As an eccentric Har Ghar Tranga campaign nears culmination on Monday, the citizenry is upbeat about Independence Day celebrations.
The main programme to celebrate the occasion will be held at 2nd Ground, Polo, from 9 am.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will hoist the national flag and will take the salute of the marching contingents, which will be followed by the speech by the CM.
The Celebrations will be live-streamed through the Local Cable TV Programmes and the DIPR Facebook Page.

Meanwhile, the NSS Cell of the ICFAI University Meghalaya observed the Azadi Ka Armit Mahotsav to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence on Saturday.
The event began with the unfurling of the National Flag by Vice Chancellor Dr Alicia Gatphoh in the presence of Registrar Dr Indrani B Bhuyan, Deputy Registrar (Exams) Dr Surajit Sen, besides members of the faculty, staff and students. The National Anthem was rendered in full honour with the hoisting of the Tricolour. The day also witnessed to a cultural extravaganza performed by the students of the University. Traditional and cultural dances were performed apart from the renditions of patriotic songs in local languages.
In his address, Dr Sen reminded the gathering about the significance of “independence” and “freedom”, while Dr Bhuyan took them down the lanes of gory past as she talked about the horrors of Partition.
