Pressure groups move DC against authorities at fault

TURA, Aug 23: Riled by the recent death of a woman due to electrocution in South Garo Hills, pressure groups have moved the deputy commissioner for action against the alleged negligence of the concerned authorities.
It is pertinent to note that the incident took place around 11 am on August 18 at Nengbrek Gittim under Nongalbibra where one Suritha N Sangma lost her life after getting electrocuted. The victim had reportedly come into contact with the low-lying 11 KV line, which connects Nongalbibra to Darang Boldak.
Meanwhile, in a complaint to the South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) and Garo Students’ Union (GSU) blamed the negligence of the Sub-Divisional Manager concerned and the Feedback Energy Distribution Co. Ltd (FEDCO) for the woman’s death.
The groups also claiming that the FEDCO neither has adequate manpower nor electrical equipment and expertise to deal with the overall functioning and management of the company.
Calling for immediate action against the ones at fault so as to ensure that similar incidents do not take place in the future, the groups urged the DC to look initiate an independent inquiry into the incident and submit the report of the same the Power Minister.
They further demanded that the MoU signed between the state government and the FEDCO should be revoked immediately and that action be taken against the Sub Divisional Manager of the company.
