Banteidor seeks central funds for farmers

SHILLONG, Aug 25: Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh on Thursday said he urged Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar to allocate funds for the benefit of farmers in the state.
Lyngdoh, who met Tomar in Delhi on Thursday, briefed him on the decision taken by the state government to lift the ban on use of chemical fertilizers in the state.
Lyngdoh, who was accompanied by a delegation of the Hill Farmers’ Union, apprised the Union minister of the problems faced by farmers of the state after the ban on use of fertilizers was imposed.
The production of agricultural crops has come down drastically, badly affected the farmers, Lyngdoh told Tomar.
Prior to his meeting with the Union Agriculture minister, Lyngdoh also met Minister of State in-charge of Chemicals and Fertilizers Bhagwant Khuba and urged him to release the quota of fertilizers meant for Meghalaya.
