Ri-Bhoi zoo set for inauguration in November

SHILLONG, Aug 26: The state’s first modern zoo is likely to be inaugurated in Ri-Bhoi in November.
An official of the Forest department on Friday they have been given the target to complete the project in November.
The construction work is progressing smoothly and the animal enclosures have mostly been completed while construction of the entry gate and ticket counter is ongoing, the official said.
Once the construction work is completed, all the animals from Ka Phan Nonglait Park in the city will be shifted to the new zoo while the former would be redeveloped into a recreational centre.
The upcoming zoo in Ri-Bhoi will have souvenir and gift shops, ATMs, wheelchair facilities, kiosks, cafeteria and staff quarters.
