NEW DELHI, Aug 29: In the entire Northeast including Meghalaya, the street-level ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ will be organised in a big way with massive public mobilisation, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president Vincent H Pala said on Monday after attending the meeting of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
“I am sure the Yatra will be a further boost to the morale of party men and the public,” Pala said at the meeting.
The meeting was called with the AICC general secretaries and in-charge, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) presidents, and state coordinators of the Bharat Jodo Yatra for discussions on preparations for the month-long march.
From October to January, respective PCC presidents and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leaders would hold the Bharat Jodo Yatra in their respective states.
But in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Northeastern states including Assam, there would be street-level protests.
The 3,570-kilometre-long historic Bharat Jodo Yatra scheduled to start from the September 7 from Kanyakumari will culminate within 148 days in Kashmir, Pala said. The Yatra will include padyatras, rallies, and public meetings which will be attended by the senior Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
The basic purpose of the march is to highlight the massive corruption and all-round failure of the BJP-led central government, Pala said. Prices of all commodities including essentials have reached sky high and the common people including youths have no job, he added.
